Requirements traceability matrix and coverage gaps

requirements_traceability

Build a matrix linking requirements to design elements and tests, give each requirement a test status, and list requirements without design, tests or a pass, and links to nothing.

What it takes and gives

Runs with
Python 3.10 or later
Command
python3 requirements_traceability.py < input.json
Function
requirements_traceability.run
Required input
requirements, tests

Cases it covers

  • Known wrong example: Test T1 verifies requirement R9, which is not listed, so coverage would count a requirement nobody wrote. Refused as unknown requirement.
  • input invalid: refused with exit code 2
  • input not json: refused with exit code 2
  • duplicate id: refused with exit code 2
  • unknown requirement: refused with exit code 2

Limits and scope

Limits
A link is trusted as declared; the helper cannot tell whether a test really verifies the requirement. Status uses the latest result per test only. When no design elements are given, the without_design gap is left empty and design_checked is false.
Work activities
Collaborate with others to determine design specifications or details; Analyze project data to determine specifications or requirements; Evaluate designs or specifications to ensure quality.
