Cracked earth and salt flat

In your harnessProcedural textureMIT

Generate tileable PBR maps of dried mud and desert pans: Voronoi plates with open cracks and curled edges, finer secondary cracks, damp patches, or raised salt-crust ridges. Use for deserts, dry lakes and drought scenes.

Render of Cracked earth and salt flat
The render its check recorded in Godot 4.7.2, 256 by 256 pixels.

What it takes and gives

Entry point
generate
Maps
albedo, normal, roughness, height, ao
Parameters
plates_across, crack_width, edge_relief, curl, secondary_cracks, moisture, hue_shift, saturation and 1 more
Presets
default, dark_mud, desert_pan, salt_flat
Tileable
yes
Command line
python cracked_earth.py --size 1024 --seed 7 --preset NAME --out DIR [--width W --height H] [--set NAME=VALUE] [--directx-normal] [--orm]
Godot material
material.tres
Blender builder
blender_material.build_material(folder)

Limits. Plates are Voronoi cells, which give mostly polygonal outlines; real shrinkage cracks also meet at right angles. Curl and ridges are height profiles only. Occlusion is a blurred-height estimate.

Godot 4.7.2, gl_compatibility
Checks
command line generates declared maps, maps decode, maps have declared size and channels, maps tile without a seam, normal vectors unit length facing out, maps carry detail, godot imports the maps, godot material template loads every map, godot compatibility render, capture shows the textured surface, blender builds the material
Techniques
Worley noise cells as shrinkage plates, Noise-modulated crack width from the distance to the cell border, Second, finer Worley diagram for secondary cracks, Signed edge profile for cracks or ridges, Height to tangent-space normal by central differences
