Three-point light rig with illuminance ratios
In your harnessBlender toolMIT
Add key, fill and rim area lights aimed at a target, placed by azimuth and elevation, with fill and rim powers derived from illuminance ratios at their distances. Use it to light a subject for product, character or turntable renders.

What it takes and gives
- Operator
- baltor.light_three_point
- Parameters
- target, key_distance, fill_distance, rim_distance, key_azimuth, key_elevation, fill_azimuth, fill_elevation and 9 more
- Result
- An empty with three parented area lights constrained to aim at it.
- Blender
- 4.2 or later
- Axes
- Blender Z up, -Y forward
- Units
- metres
Limits. Powers follow the inverse square law from each light's centre, which is approximate for area lights that are large compared with their distance. The ratios hold at the target point only. Colours are linear RGB values, not colour temperatures. The lights stay aimed by Track To constraints on the rig empty; glTF export keeps their positions but not the constraints. Verified in Blender 5.2.1 with Cycles; written for the 4.2 API.
