Metallic flake car paint with a flip colour

In your harnessBlender toolMIT

Build a car paint node material: a two-tone colour that flips at grazing angles, Voronoi metal flakes that tilt the base layer's normal so they sparkle, and a smooth clear coat on its own normal. Use it for vehicles, product renders and toys.

Render of Metallic flake car paint with a flip colour
The render its check recorded in Blender 5.2.1, 192 by 192 pixels.

What it takes and gives

Operator
baltor.material_car_paint
Parameters
material_name, base_color, flip_color, metallic, base_roughness, flake_scale, flake_strength, coat_roughness and 1 more
Result
One material with a node tree; assigned to the active object.
Blender
4.2 or later
Axes
Blender Z up, -Y forward
Units
metres

Limits. Flakes come from Voronoi cells in object space, so their size scales with the object and they alias at a distance unless enough samples are rendered. The flip colour uses a facing ramp, not measured pearlescent data, and the paint is not physically based beyond the Principled BSDF. Rendered here with Cycles CPU only. Verified in Blender 5.2.1; written for the 4.2 API.
