Involute spur gear

In your harnessBlender toolMIT

Generate a spur gear with true involute tooth flanks from module, tooth count and pressure angle, with backlash, face width and an optional bore, and report its pitch, tip, root and base diameters. Use it for mechanisms, gear trains and machine props that must mesh.

Render of Involute spur gear
The render its check recorded in Blender 5.2.1, 192 by 192 pixels.

What it takes and gives

Operator
baltor.spur_gear_involute
Parameters
teeth, module, pressure_angle, face_width, bore_diameter, backlash, flank_samples, smooth_bore_sides
Result
One closed mesh object named Spur Gear, axis along Z, centred on the origin.
Blender
4.2 or later
Axes
Blender Z up, -Y forward
Units
metres

Limits. Standard full-depth teeth only (addendum one module, dedendum 1.25 modules); no profile shift, no undercut or trochoid root fillet, so gears below about 17 teeth at 20 degrees are not exact near the root. The root between teeth is a straight chord, not an arc. No helix, hub or keyway. Fine for rendering and animation; check tolerances before manufacturing. Verified in Blender 5.2.1; written for the 4.2 API.
