Woven cloth from a weave draft

In your harnessProcedural textureMIT

Generate tileable PBR maps of woven fabric from a weave draft: plain, 2/2 and 3/1 twill, 4/1 satin, basket or herringbone, with round threads, twist, fuzz, slubs and gaps. Use for clothing, upholstery, sacks, canvas and banners.

Render of Woven cloth from a weave draft
The render its check recorded in Godot 4.7.2, 256 by 256 pixels.

What it takes and gives

Entry point
generate
Maps
albedo, normal, roughness, height, ao
Parameters
weave, threads, thread_width, twist, fuzz, slubs, sheen, hue_shift and 2 more
Presets
default, denim, wool_twill, satin, burlap, basket, herringbone
Tileable
yes
Command line
python woven_cloth.py --size 1024 --seed 7 --preset NAME --out DIR [--width W --height H] [--set NAME=VALUE] [--directx-normal] [--orm]

Limits. Threads are idealized round strands on a regular grid with no fabric drape, stretch or pile. Thread counts are rounded up to a multiple of the draft size. Sheen is approximated by lower roughness on floats; anisotropic highlights need an engine-side fabric shader. Occlusion is a blurred-height estimate.

Godot 4.7.2, gl_compatibility
Checks
command line generates declared maps, maps decode, maps have declared size and channels, maps tile without a seam, normal vectors unit length facing out, maps carry detail, godot imports the maps, godot material template loads every map, godot compatibility render, capture shows the textured surface, blender builds the material
Techniques
Weave drafts (binary interlacing matrices) for plain, twill, satin, basket and herringbone weaves, Round thread cross-sections with dips at interlacing points, Per-thread hashing for colour and slub variation, Value noise for thick and thin stretches, Height to tangent-space normal by central differences
