Versailles pattern stone pavers

In your harnessProcedural textureMIT

Generate tileable PBR maps of stone pavers in the Versailles (French) pattern: four sizes from an exact periodic module with no four-way joints and short straight joints, in tumbled travertine, walnut travertine, honed limestone or multicolour slate. Use for patios, terraces, pool decks and interior stone floors.

Render of Versailles pattern stone pavers
The render its check recorded in Godot 4.7.2, 256 by 256 pixels.

What it takes and gives

Entry point
generate
Maps
albedo, normal, roughness, height, ao
Parameters
repeats, joint_width, joint_fill, tumbling, pits, veining, colour_variation, hue_shift and 2 more
Presets
default, walnut_travertine, honed_limestone, multicolour_slate
Tileable
yes
Command line
python versailles_pavers.py --size 1024 --seed 7 --preset NAME --out DIR [--width W --height H] [--set NAME=VALUE] [--directx-normal] [--orm]
Godot material
material.tres
Blender builder

Limits. One fixed module: one piece each of 2 x 3, 2 x 2, 1 x 2 and 1 x 1 units repeated by a lattice of index 13, so the tile is 13 units square (or a multiple); other Versailles layouts and borders are out of scope. Travertine pits, bands, chips and slate colours are noise approximations, not measured stone. At small output sizes joints are thinner than a pixel. Occlusion is a blurred-height estimate, not ray traced.

Checks
command line generates declared maps, maps decode, maps have declared size and channels, maps tile without a seam, normal vectors unit length facing out, maps carry detail, godot imports the maps, godot material template loads every map, godot compatibility render, capture shows the textured surface, blender builds the material
Techniques
Lattice tiling: a four-piece cluster as a complete residue system of the lattice (t, 4t mod 13), Exhaustive search over cluster placements for no four-way joints and straight joints of at most four units, Rectangle side distances with tumbled, chipped edges, Anisotropic fractional Brownian motion for bedding bands and elongated pits, Height to tangent-space normal by central differences
