Honeycomb with capped and honey-filled cells

In your harnessProcedural textureMIT

Generate tileable PBR maps of honeycomb: hexagonal wax cells with rounded walls, empty tubes, glossy honey that climbs the walls and domed wax caps in patches, from new white comb to dark brood comb. Use for beehives, honey props, food scenes, nature close-ups and sci-fi hex surfaces.

Render of Honeycomb with capped and honey-filled cells
The render its check recorded in Godot 4.7.2, 256 by 256 pixels.

Limits. Cells are seen face-on as a height field: the depth of an empty cell is a short drop to a dark floor, not a modelled tube, and honey is an opaque glossy surface with no translucency or refraction. Larvae, pollen, bees and broken comb are out of scope. Capped and open cells gather by smooth noise rather than by colony behaviour. The hexagons come from a lattice made near-regular for the tile, so very low cell counts squash them slightly. Occlusion is a blurred-height estimate.

Checks
command line generates declared maps, maps decode, maps have declared size and channels, maps tile without a seam, normal vectors unit length facing out, maps carry detail, godot imports the maps, godot material template loads every map, godot compatibility render, capture shows the textured surface, blender builds the material
Techniques
Worley cells of a jittered hexagonal lattice on the torus, Wax walls from the distance to the cell border, Domed caps from the distance to the cell centre, Honey meniscus climbing the walls, Noise field sampled per cell for capped patches, Height to tangent-space normal by central differences, Cavity occlusion from blurred height
